San Marino units

What’s the plan for the property?

We sought design, architecture, and engineering advice about how we could keep the beach bach feeling but bring the design into the 21st century.

The first unit is complete and looks amazing. It is very stylish as well as being so much more functional and spacious.

The biggest change will be the exterior with a lot more decking. You can walk straight out your front door, step down one step and spread out on your sun lounger to read a book or watch the ocean.

This creates a modern beach apartment you will be delighted to stay in.

What changes have we made to the units?

We engaged a professional interior designer with a brief to keep the kiwi holiday bach vibe in a coastal mid century modern style..

Changes include:

  • Removing the heavy beams and the 70s spiral plaster and replacing with a crisp smooth white ceiling.
  • Replacing the 7 different styles of light fittings in random locations around the unit with professionally designed coordinated lighting including strip lighting in the new kitchen and a stunning feature light in the lounge.
  • Removing the textured plaster walls and replacing them with modern square stopped simple white walls.
  • Rebuilding the kitchen and bathroom from scratch. The new white kitchen, with a modern pencil tiled splashback, is an L shape and so much more functional. It has a stone benchtop, brushed brass sink and tap, a ceramic cooktop and a full size fridge/freezer. No more having to squeeze the day’s catch into a tiny bar fridge!
  • The new bathroom is fully tiled and has a modern vanity with plenty of storage space, a stone top and round basin with brushed brass taps. To complement the mid century design the room features a stunning brass framed round mirror and drop pendant light. The room is finished off with a modern glass shower panel and brand new toilet.
  • The new timber floating floors in espresso oak add a warm modern feeling. The spacious design includes tongue and groove bed head topped with a timber feature ledge. The modern comfortable leather couch and soft furnishings add that cosy beach home feeling while keeping everything low maintenance for sandy feet.
